Your Relations, Income, Self, and Efficiency in life are vital, these are your "Life Layers." Let’s start dissecting what’s really important to you. Why? Well, that’s all that matters. That’s why.
At Life Degree we believe that this entire world is built to make us happy. We just stubbornly put ourselves into situations that steer us away from our paths. To make sure you don’t, YOU need to pinpoint exactly what it is you want.
How to Figure out What Your Ideal Life Looks Like in 3 STEPS
Step 1: Make Your "Life List"
It's as simple as it looks, you can write everything you can ever think to want, all of your desires…then place them into one of the four categories.Don’t just put the possible, shoot for the impossible; the possible is already going to happen.
Maybe open a word document first so you can free flow your ideas. GO WILD!
Now, separate them into present and future goals. Think big, we’re not kidding here!
Anything and everything that you can think of should be written down, we've had people with a list of over 100 and others with a list of 5 (the 5 person was definitely thinking a tad too small and once re-attacked the list grew). It's not about quantity, it's about quality. Only you know the life you want to lead.
Write them down in one place, physical writing helps you reflect on these goals. You can print out this PDF we use as a simple starting point.
ACTION ITEM: When you're done transferring everything to your list, print it out and put where you'll see it always. Think mirror in a bedroom, dashboard of car, fridge door, etc…
TAKE 1 MINUTE FOR EACH ITEM TO PICTURE IT AS IF IT ALREADY EXISTS. DO THIS EVERY DAY FOR EVERY THING ON YOUR LIFE LIST.
Step 2: Pulse Check
Check the pulse of where you’re at in terms of your strengths and weaknesses in your life, or put simply within the four "Life Layers" areas (Relations, Income, Self, and Efficiency) and create SMART (specific, measurable, assignable (and to who), realistic, and timely) goals for you that are going to set the tone for your work to come. This will be the metric for you going forward.
BE AS HONEST WITH YOURSELF ABOUT WHAT'S GOING WRONG IN YOUR LIFE AS POSSIBLE, WRITE IT ALL OUT, AND BE EQUALLY GENEROUS AND HONEST, FILLED WITH GRATITUDE ABOUT WHAT IS BLISSFULLY AS IT NEEDS TO BE.
The things you want to work on you begin to create as goal items for your SMART list.
TIP: You can even break it up for both the Professional and Personal components of your life. Here's an example of one of our Social Media gurus smart goals made at the beginning of her time with us.
Step 3: Reverse Engineer
It's easier to work backwards than forwards, think about all the things that you've learned in life. The lesson is crystal clear, 20/20 vision in hindsight. That's why it was so important to do the 1 minute perfection practice for each item because now that you've seen it as it is you can start thinking about how you get from where you are, Point A, to that perfect image, Point B.
Now all of the steps may not surface as you want them to be, all the means may not be there but there is a something to be said for having a clear vision and walking towards it.
MUCH OF GROWING AND ABUNDANCE IN LIFE IS BASED ON FAITH.
As Eckhart Tolle kept pounding home in his book "The Power of Now," You have to have faith in yourself and that by putting all of your effort forward on the crucial step you're working on NOW. When you focus on the NOW, the next step will slowly, but ever so surely, rise from fogs of life and you'll work on that step when you get there.
Don't let your ego get the best of you, what has happened is done and fretting over past shames or concerns steals the gift of the present. Equally so, don't cling to your perfect image, you never know how things will realize, they may come just as you need and not how you want or even better yet in a form never before anticipated.
